Home Insurance - Family Legal Cover?

Home insurance is due for renewal and there is an option of Family Legal Cover, it's just me, is it worth having?

Depends on your hobbies, how much it is and exactly what it covers.

For example if you are a cyclist and it covers your legal costs to pursue your losses (time off work, bicycle, clothing) etc. then I would say it's worth having.
If you're a driver and it provides a defence against motoring convictions then again you might think that is wothwhile.

For some things (like personal injury) you can get a "no win no fee" solicitor. For claiming back the cost of a bicycle they won't be interested, so you either need to DIY or have insurance.

Are you the sort of person that's articulate with writing letters, know your rights etc. or do are you not very articulate and suffer anxiety.
Do you have friends and family who would help you out if you were in hospital or emotionally traumatised?
An articulate person with a strong family network might be happy to DIY. If you don't have family around you or don't want the hassle of legal legwork then you might want to get the insurance.

So at the end of the day, entirely down your personal circumstance.

Personally I prefer to have insurance in place for the relatively small sum involved.

It will also cover for things like suing for faulty goods etc which no win no fee types wont often be interest in because of the £5,000+ threashold for Fast Track on non-injury claims.
