Has anyone fixed with edf? I am with them at the moment but not fixed. They have offered me 3 options the first is fixed till Dec 2012 at the price I am paying now. The second is till march 2013 at the increased price from November with A £50 welcome bonus. The third is fixed till 2014 at 3% more than the price increase with a £75 welcome bonus.
What are your thoughts on this. We have enough credit on the account so we wouldn't have to increase our monthly payments.

Presumably, as an existing EDF customer, you find their customer support and systems adequate. I fixed until Sept 2012 as a new customer last May. Figured I'd see how they are rather than making a real long term committment. Glad I did as my account still isn't sorted and I'll even pay a bit more to go elsewhere upon completion of the existing contract.
It's as much a personal choice as anything. I've had fixed rates in the past and always come out ahead of what it would have cost me on a variable tariff. But more than that, I like to know what I'll be paying for the duration of the contract. If EDF ever stop messing about with my DD amount that is!

Too late now to be getting a cheap EDF fix I'm afraid, where have you been all Autumn? The cheapest current option (Fix For 2012) is over £170pa more expensive for me than the recently pulled Fixed Saver v2.
Use your annual kWh figures on a comp site to find the current cheapest fix.
When you say 'at the same price', do you just mean 'at the same monthly DD level'? Not the same thing at all.
What matters is your annual cost, not your initial DD amount.

    Thanks for the replies.
Well I was on a fixed rate with them and I think I must have not read the renewal letter properly (I do tend to skip read through letters sometimes). I have fixed till 2012 at the same rate (per kwh) as I am on now. I could kick myself for not reading the letter properly now, I'll certainly be reading them more thoroughly in the future.

Read the letters and then keep them somewhere safe so that you can refer to them later. I keep everything from fuel suppliers for several years just in case.
  • Hi

Whatever you do, dont be on the standard prices and decide asap, tariffs can be pulled with no notice. BTW I have checked the website the fix for 2013 tariff is fixing the tariffs that the prices are going up to on 10/11/2011 and welcome bonus is for everyone not just new customers

Could you provide some evidence to support that please? I assume you are referring to the Price Protection 2013 tariff?

  • A friend I know who is already with EDF (existing customer) has moved to this fixed 2013 tariff and has received the Welcome bonus, plus I know someone who works for EDF who has confirmed it.

I would assume it's on their website in the terms & conditions of the tariff.
