Help urgently needed, motor insurance! :(

hi again
I have now brought a car, its very very decent, new tyres, years MOT and 9 months tax, average mileage, but I feel like i'v made a very big mistake.

What happened was I heard that if you put your dad as the main driver (as he has loads of no claims bonuses) and you as the second driver you save money, and I was basing my online insurance quotes on that, this made perfect sense as I was only planning to drive it to college and back and my dad could of used it the rest of the time whenever he wanted.

well we tried that and the insurance company told us that you get NO "no claim bonuses" for the second vehicle when you add the other name, so the quote is coming up to over a grand!.

we tried another insurance company and they told us a very similar thing, I mean I had no idea, it seems very silly, why would they do that?.

Feeling very very down, only work part time and try to study the rest of the time and a grand a year just for insurance is very crippling.
its mainly because of my age I guess (19).

All we want to do is that he keeps his current car and he buys another car which we both can use, on the second car he wants to be the main user while I use it occasionally, any help will be very very appreciated, another fine mess I have got myself into.

Again any help that anyone provides I'll be very grateful.

Thank you

yeah mate, you are only able to use no claims bonus on 1 car. what car is it you have? i deal in cars and could probably guide you to the best place if you let me know what car we are tlaking about. i deal in subarus etc and always have the same problems when people buy my cars and come back a week later unable to find insurance.

try https://www.elephant.co.uk to start with, they are brilliant usually

If it's YOUR car and you insure it in your DAD's name, they aren't going to believe for a second it's his car or that he's the main driver. Why in the world is he going to be the main user when he's already got his own car?

Mis-declaring the main driver is fraudulent.

And if you insure it in his name, you won't accrue any no claims bonus.

You've made a bad buying choice as you should have calculated the price of insuring it properly and legally. :(

no hes going to buy the car in his name, I'm just paying for half the car as I'm gonna be driving it to college, and no it would of all been legal as I would of only driven it 2 days a week to college, so the car is essentially his technically (on the V5 document).

Thanks for the advice burbs :), I did try elephant, was quite expensive.

The car is a 1994 Nissan Sunny 1.4 5Dr inspiration.
Again thank you for your help
