Depends on what your annual mileage is and what insurance you are paying-and perhaps most importantly with a new car, how you factor in the biggest cost of all-depreciation.
But What Car says 56.5p per mile for a new Grand Scenic 2.0 petrol.

1000 miles a year i doubt its worth the cost of keeping it.

Insurance, Tax, MOT and servicing will be very high when you work out the costs per mile.

£500 insurance and thats 50p a mile.. Before you add the other costs.

There is no 'average' cost of running a car. Any more than there is an average cost of buying a house. Anything from 30p per mile to (in your case) more like 150p a mile on your tiny mileage.
You could travel 1000 miles pa by taxi for much less.
It's a rather strange question to ask, as only you will know what you are paying for fuel, servicing, tax, insurance etc.

I reckon that for total cost of ownership, insurance, fuel, tax, maintenance and depreciation if you're getting under 40p a mile you're doing well.

    1,000 miles a year? I'd hire a car when I needed one.

2008 Focus 1.8 Ghia (approx 10,000 miles per annum)

    Depreciation approx £2000 per annum
    Insurance £300-350
    Tax £190
    Tyres £150-200
    Maintenance £150
    Petrol £1600-1800

It works out about 45 pence per mile.
