joint bank account liability

I am seeking any experiences people might share with me. Just got a statement from former bank addressed to me showing balance owing in joint account after lump sum from F&F Iva. My wife received similar statement in a separate envelope.

I understand that she is now liable for this balance. Wondering why they wrote to me as my liability is covered by IVA payment. In any event we do not have the funds to pay this £4,000 or so, and the statement does not ask for payment.

Should my wife write to say she is unable to pay, make a token offer as a F&F settlement. As always any information shared on this will be much appreciated

Although your liabilty for the joint loan is covered by your IVA, your wife is still responsible for the whole amount. I have heard other posters in this situation have successfully negotiated a reduced F&F for the loan. Hopefully someone who has actually done this will happen along soon and give you a better insight
