If the money has been kidnapped then call the foreign office so they can negotiate its release.

with southern elec, and if i am in credit i ask them to credit the gas to make sure both are in the black.

they do this for me, never come up with excuses of why they won't move my money or give back if i wanted it.

even told me about the scheme they are running *the government one where they are giving money to the elderly and vunrable and made sure i was on it so looking forward to my £120 next year, makes winter less of a worry knowing if i need to use the heating i have money there in march to cover it.

i am sure energy companies have to give you back your credit if you ask. it is your money after all. they won't give it back unless you ask though.

  • I had a similar thing with EDF earlier this year. By the time I'd lived in my house for a year, I was over £400 in credit for both gas and electricity. I rang them after six months and was told they were due to review the amounts I was paying, and then I rang a couple of months later and again they said they were about to review it, but nothing changed. When I rang them after a year, the person I spoke to gave me the same spiel and eventually, after I asked to speak to a manager, she actually looked at my account details and realised why I was unhappy. They’ve since refunded me £400 into my bank account, which left me about £30 in credit and reduced my DD amounts. Now I submit meter readings about once a month online so I can check I’m paying about the right amount. I don’t mind being a bit in credit but over £100 is a bit ridiculous imho.

I know that the people who lived there before left owing them quite a bit of money (I haven’t changed suppliers) which is the only reason I can think of as to why they originally set my DDs so high (about £85) even though I live on my own and am out of the house for about twelve hours a day, Monday to Friday...

I've just had rebates for both Gas and Electric from Atlantic Power. £230 in total, no problems. I've left my DD's at the higher amount as it's common sense, winters on it's way !

My in credit with SP is now £263 and I had a bill only a month ago.
They say that they automatically review and change your DD amount every quarter.
This is a load of tripe.

I rang them today and asked for my DD to be altered because of my amount of in credit.
She asked for today`s meter readings and generated another bill, which in effect means that my DD amount, from next month, is reduced dramatically by 60%.

It seems to me that they only review and amend it each quarter if it needs to go UP but ignore it if it needs to go down.

The other "con" is they claim to pay interest on any amount over £100 in credit.
For every £33 over £100 yet get £1.
But this is only based on what your in credit is on your annual review date and not what you have had in credit over a year.

If you think you`re too much in credit, ring up and complain and get your DD reduced.
