Just as the title really. My 2 year old son has chickenpox and saw the first spot yesterday, thought it might just be one and ignored it but he now has the runny nose, cough and some more spots. Everyone else in he house has had it so no worries there but what to do.....
I know once they are crusted over he is not contagoius but will they let him fly if he has crusty spots on his face? Any ideas? Thought I would try here before panicking and calling the Airline. What is the worse case senario? Can they move us to fly a few days later, will they wait until we are at check in andtell us to go home? Will insurance cover this and move us to fly a few days later? Any more than a few days and we will have to forkout another £300 on tickets to get into the parks (he will turn 3) and will also have to pay more money as it might go up in price due to half term. Help.

I doubt they'll even be bothered. As you say once they are crusted over he isn't contagious anymore, theres probably more chance of catching it off someone in the early stages who isn't displaying the symptoms yet. One option if you are worried is get an appointment with Doc for next week once they are crusted over. get him to write a note detailing he is fine and you can carry that with you at airport etc.0

Thank you. I shall see how he is and then get an appointment for Thursday and fingers crossed they'll give me a letter. I did not even know he was sick until he got one spot and has become very tired - he never sleeps during the day and that is when I know he is sick!! Thanks for your advice.0

Sorry haven't really got anything constructive to say, but you can get chicken pox more than once. Hope it all works out for you.0 -
IMHO with 4 kids, 3 of whom have had chicken pox, it should be all but gone within about 10 days so you should be OK.
I put something in their bath to encourage the spots to dry out, think it was good old bicarbonate of soda, it worked well and the last DS only had less than a week off school (off from first spot appearing on a Tuesday, went back spot-free, apart from the odd dried up/crusted one on his back, the following Monday).

Thanks coupon, I shall give that I try. I have not yet seen many more but my daughter had very few when she had it. I have breastfed both of them and they are still young so maybe that has something to do with it. One can hope!! Thanks.0

Might be an idea to check with who you are flying with also. As above posters, should be ok by then, but best to double check.

Whilst my friend was on hol in Florida, her youngest lad came out in chickenpox 2 days before they were due to fly home - so she facepainted him as spiderman !! Another of their friends kids caught it, but she told the airline/doctors and they would not allow them to fly home until a further week! get the face paints out !!0

LOL, yes, I can imagine but an extra week will not be so bad rather than missing a week - however, my son hates having his face painted at the moment!!
I have had a good read around and he should be clear by next week but I will take him to the docs on Monday - that will give him another 4 days for it to start clearing, he will either say it is going or that he has it. I'll then come home and tell the Insurance company and tell them I'll go back on Thursday to see how it is. If he is clear I'll get the doc to do a letter, if not then I'll contact the Insurance company and we'll have to fly out a few days later. I guess they can do this and that is why you pay insurance, luckily I decided on an anual policy so we have been covered a month anyhow. It is tricky as we are flying MOnday lunchtime so I cannot get to the docs on the day or the day before as we are staying at Gatwick on Sunday so Friday is the latest day to get the doctors letter. So, fingers crossed now, that is all!!
Oh, and Virgin just told me to get a doctors letter - initially they didn;t seem to know. How bizarre!!0
