Hi
Looking to change my 19tdi skoda Fabia after I fount out the gearbox is on the way out and a £500+ bill to fix it.
I have my car worth around £1,000 and around £2000 to put to a new car maybe a pay monthly deal.
Any advise on a relaible car good on fuel or any part chop deals going at the moment would be a big help
Would like a diesel
Thanks as Always!:)

Would be a lot cheaper to get a used box from a pranged car and sling it in your present one.
Now is definately not the time to get yourself in hock.0 -
You have a VW/Audi engine, so if you can find-out what engine is fitted, then google for a matching gearbox. If it is the same engine as the Polo, then £150 on eBay.Never Knowingly Understood.

You could end up buying your new car - only to find the previous owner sold it on as it needed £500+ spending on a new gearbox!
Do as advised above, and get a secondhand gearbox off Ebay or a scrappy."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Spending £500 is too expensive, but the idea of spending £3000 and then taking credit on top isn't too expensive?????

Is it going to be worth £1k with a dodgy gearbox?
if you like Skoda why not another one.
Whats actualy wrong with the box?
age mileage?
Might not be as bad as you think and aspointed out a second hand swap might be an option.0 -

If the car's in good condition otherwise, and you like it, then fix it.
If you fancy a change though, then now is a good time to get shot.0 -

We had a customer who was PX'ing their car due to the amount of work they have paid to be done on it over the last two years... New brakes, new radiator, aircon parts, timing belt, rear suspension arms, 4 tyres etc etc... So I bought it and sold it to a family member who is still driving it 3 years later and all they have done is change the oil and filters.
So OP it seems silly to bin your car off if it needs a few quid spending on it, as the next car you buy might have more wrong with it.
It's better the devil you know really.0
