Volantary Redundancy

I am wondering if anyone can help me. My father is off work sick due to ill health and it looks very likely he would not return again but today he has recieved a letter in the post regarding the company he works for. They have advised that they have had a staff meeting while he was off and is looking for 3 people to take volantary redundancy.
My father has worked with the company for 39.5 years but in this time it has been taken over 2 times and the recent one was only 5 years agao.
Can anyone give me some advise as to if he was to take volantary redundancy would he then beable to claim benefits right away as he has only been recieved SSP for the past 14 weeks.
Thank you
Lori

Not if he has continuity of service - if there was no actual break in service at the time of the takeovers then that suggests continuity would be preserved across the takeovers by TUPE.
Has he any contract or correspondence from the time of the last takeover he can check?0 -

Unfortunatly, from an employers point of view, it may be cheaper to just dismiss you dad on capability/illness grounds rather than make him redundant. Which is cheaper depends on thier policies on redundancy/ill-health0
