Vehicle Identity Check

I recently bought a CAT D Peugeot 106 diesel to use as spares for my own vehicle and then scrapping it once i'd got what i wanted.
I filled in the V5 with my details to register me as the new keeper, then would just register it as being scrapped once i'd got rid of it. I got a letter from the DVLA today saying that before i get a V5 for it it needs to pass a VIC, the cars currently being stripped for parts and theres no chance of it ever going back on the road and certainly no chance of it being driven to a VIC test !!
I've tried finding details online and calling VOSA, but there closed untill monday.
Anyone any idea as to if the test is still needed even if its being scrapped ?
Thanks

If i VIC is required then it must be a CAT C not D.
This test is only needed if you intend putting the car back on the road, You carn't get a V5 for the car unless it has had the VIC but you dont need a V5 if you are only stripping it and then scraping it. A V5 states the person responsible for the car ie tax/insurance etc not the legal owner, so you dont need to worry about having the V5 as you are not using the car on the road.0 -
Only issue I can think of is how to get rid of the shell - I think a scrapyard is "supposed" to request the V5 before taking it - but in a recent thread on here someone managed to get it scrapped without a V5 and I doubt you will have much trouble finding a friendly scrap man to be honest.0
