If you reheat something you've cooked yourself you 'know where it's been'.

If you reheat takeaway stuff you don't know how many heat/cool cycles it's already been through.

Applies to everything, not just rice, but cooked rice is classed as a 'high risk' food.

I believe rice in one of the worst as no amount of heat will destroy the toxin.

we have always re-heated rice. for decades. never been ill from it!

It's not reheating that causes a problem with rice, the issue is not cooling it quickly enough. Bacillus cereus is present at low levels in all rice raw or cooked but if you leave cooked rice out to cool for too long it can very rapidly reproduce to dangerous levels & there is no way to kill it off & leave the reheated rice fit for human consumption.
If cooked rice has been left out to cool at room temperature for more than about 90 minutes the most sensible thing to do is discard it & cook a fresh batch next time it is really not worth risking food poisoning just for a few pence worth of rice.

I definitely agree about cooked rice - if I have any boiled rice left over I run it under the cold tap and stick it straight in the fridge, then use it as quickly as possible - in a fried rice dish usually.
  • Cold curry for breakfast is one of my favourite things.......I even prefer it to hot.
    ''apply within'' :)
  • I like cold curry too Useless, was introduced to it many many years ago by a Scottish girl with legs that went on for miles...:)

I understand the risk with rice but I've always re-heated it and never once had a problem!

    Re heating rice is fine.
Re heating rice that has been left out on the side all night is probably a bad idea!!
