Crayfish tails????????

Options
Just bought some yesterday anyone know - are they tasty/quick easy tasty ways to eat?

They are in brine and cooked and peeled. I had a quick look at recipes on the net but didn't fancy most of them and know that lots of you have your own ingenious way of doing things:D

    Hi

I usually buy them fresh when they are reduced, but I guess it doesn't make much difference, I'd just rinse the brine off really well. You can pretty much do anything with them that you would do with prawns, I love them mixed in mayonnaise on a salad or in a sandwich, also they make a fab fish pie mixed with a white or sweetcorn sauce & topped with mash. They are very southern American (think Lousiana) & work really well with Caujan spice, they also make good kebabs in the summer with lots of peppers & cherry tomatos & a spicy marinade.

They are virtualy fat free & hence very good if you are on a diet!

    HTH;)

Well I made a curry from scratch and added them at the end but I thought they were a bit too chewy for my liking:D

Willtry them again though with garlic butter I think.

I hope he has a license! (One has to have a license for everything nowadays!)
He can only catch the American ones as the British ones are protected and catching them is illegal.

Apparantly they are delicious. Like mini-lobsters.

There is some info here http://www.thefield.co.uk/countryqueries/253066/Catching_crayfish.html

Many years a go whilst doing school cross country I saw the chefs from the local Chinese all down the canal catching crayfish with nets and buckets. It was just after all the local dogs and cats had disappeared and the ducks from the pond has vanished.

  • all licenced! he fishes the local river where the american crayfish are slowly but surely wrecking the river bank and if you catch them you are not ALLOWED to throw them bakc!either knock them on the head or keep them. I've heard about chinese restaurants using them, and we love seafood so i just wondered how to go about it all!
