Restricting your options of getting your funds back at maturity, and asking £30 for Chaps to get your own money back is taking the mick, but £30 to get it back via Bacs is just taking the pi$$. I think they were trying it on but fair play for getting it back at no cost.
KRBS do cheque or BACS free of charge, which is far more convenient.0 -

Ive been lucky myself, never had a fixed rate bond mature where only option was to take the cheque unless you agree to paying for a BACS transfer.
I suppose for larger amounts they've got you over a barrel, what do you do pay the £30 for the transfer, or lose even more in lost income waiting for the cheque to arrive and then to clear.

For moves from one branch account to another branch account it is easier to take a cheque and use that cheque to open the new account.
I don't know how common is a charge for closure by BACS. I was surprised when I was asked to pay the Co-Op Bank if I wanted that. I took a cheque instead.0 -
I agree with you, alan, for branch accounts. But for postal accounts, the BACS option is good to have.0

I'm gutted to have missed this...
There is this one from the Cheshire BS still available paying only a fraction less:
Cheshire - 1 year fixed rate bond: 3.55%
I'm sure there will be other 1 year fixed rate bonds coming along soon with rates like the KRBS one.Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
Funnily enough, there is another 1 year fixed rate bond with a rate like the previous KRBS one ... it's another identical KRBS one launched today!
