Installation of modern gas fire

I have been looking around for a new fire and fireplace. A modern hole in the wall type There is a nice fire I like in B&Q for £400 which I would be quite happy with
So the work that needs to be done is:-
The old fireplace needs to be removed, which my OH says he will do
Brick up the old hole and make a new opening further up the wall
The floor boards will need to be 'sorted out' as the hearth will be going.
The hole needs to be lined. ( I prefer black polished marble or black grantie)
A frame needs to be purchased and fitted Preferably shiny silver steel
The chimney breast will need to be replastered
Then the fire will have to be fitted. We already have a gas point, but of course it isn't half way up the wall
The chimney itself is fine, as it was a coal fire previously( not that we've used it... too much work each day)
We have seen a simular fire to what we would like in a shop nearby and they want £1700 to supply and fit and do all of the above work- after a haggle
Is this a reasonable price to pay? Does anyone have any other good money saving ideas I might employ here
Thanks for your thoughts

hi there, That seems very expensive, where are you based. My husband is a Corgi registered engineer who fits fires for a local company. He charges about 450 per job, but this wouldn't include the floorboards or plastering.0

Hi hOney
Thanks for the reply
Unfortunately I know its going to be expensive, as I live in Surrey. Rip Off place extrodinaire  Not much I can do about that except get the best deal possible
The Company I spoke to said that the work and fitting would take 2 days, so that still seems a lot of money to me0 -
Dilly a word of warning here........make sure that your chimney is suitable for a gas fire......if it is not you will have to have it lined and that will cost you more money......unless of course it is one of those that dont need a flue at all.
Double check all this with whoever is quoting for the job.
Presuming the flue is OK I woul think £1700 incl VAT would be about right.0
