Letting agents

I am going through a letting agent for a new flat and i had to pay £100 deposit and then they did a credit check, i failed the check and now I cant get my £100 back. I was told that i could put it towards another property in that letting agent but again I would need to get past the credit check!!!
What a rip off I swear!.
has this happened to antone else and is there anything that I can do about it?
