begs more questions than it answers
Of course you're not going to get any of the juicy gossip from the likes of the DT (or anyone else) Remember that the mainstream media works hand-in-glove with (in this case) the financial services sector. Sometimes it puffs it up if there is some message/agenda to be put out, while at other times it plays circumstances down intentionally if that suits the actors.
Still this was a gem of 'sluething':
Brian Davies of Nationwide, IIRC. I'm especially annoyed with him for lifting this term out of its historical context and plonking down in the midst of the unsuccessful member-led grab for free shares. In what sense didn't the society belong to its current membership? And in what sense did the (by then) biggest building society resemble the devastated American South? If that was true I didn't see anyone making sacrifices to hardened circumstances. 'Carpetbagger' is a bit of classic distraction employed by a well paid exec who got out with his entitlements all intact no doubt (Oh but of course they were his to keep)The term carpetbagger comes from the American Civil War, when people from the north packed all their belongings into carpetbags and headed south to lay claim to land that was not theirs. It was first applied to those seeking building society windfalls in early 1996, according to the Building Societies Association......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
Havn't had any kind of payment from Barnsley so rang them. I'm not on 'the list' of members who are getting a payment. They checked and I did have a Falcon Flexisave account at the cut off date, though I closed it some time afterwards. I've held savings accounts continuously with the Yorkshire for many years, right through to the present day.
Anyway, they've passed it on to another dept. to check it out and get back to me, but feel that it's possible that the Falcon flexisave account may not have been a SHARE account. I pretty sure it was, but can't actually find out for sure.
So, their system isn't 100% accurate, if you think your entitled and havn't had a payment, don't forget to follow it up!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

It was a share account. That was the account that I held at that time also - and the type for which I did receive a payment from them. So don't give up hope yet. [I subsequently opened a better-paying Barnsley account and then closed my qualifying account FYI]Havn't had any kind of payment from Barnsley.. they've passed it on to another dept. to check it out and get back to me, but feel that it's possible that the Falcon flexisave account may not have been a SHARE account. Snap, I did exactly the same as Milarky with the same result. I seem to remember that the account was suggested on here some years ago by BristolLeedsfan, I wonder what happened to him/her ?0 -
Just an update from my post on 19th December. My claim has been investigated and they agreed that I should have had a payment.....cheque arrived his morning. :jA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.
