Why does XP now install files after updating?

Every time Win XP installs a new security update it now seems to install a text file on my hard drive. Is there any way to turn this off or will I just have to live with it? If I delete the files manually is it likely to have an impact on the system?
I have searched MS knowledge base but cannot find an answer.

Whats the name of the file? Go into My Documents folder then click on Tools, Folder Options, then View Tab then make sure Do not show hidden files or folders as they maybe showing files you arent meant to be seeing.0

It creates a folder for each update and installs a text file in each folder msxml4-KB927978-enu.log . The folder is named similar to 5ce91abe0e63d8f829d7afac19. They aren't system folders so stay visible.0

Updates create a text file log so that auto updates can view the history when online, so it maybe a different text file and some do stay invisible/visible
Nothing to worry about

j davies is correct. It's safe to delete - make a backup just in case. G

Although it's nothing to worry about they are a total pain in the backside if you regularly navigate in the hard drive as there are so many of them:mad:0 -
