Selling car to byebuycar.com

Options
Having seen a couple of posts before and posts elsewhere chose byebuycar.com to buy my car. Arranged collection and handed over car to await bacs transfer of money within 3-5 days.
Upon phoning company after 5 days to chase up payment was greeted with answerphone message stating that company had ceased trading and that all customers, debtors, creditors, etc would be contacted in due course by insolvency team.
Registered post, emails, and of course any kind of attempt to contact company(sellcars-uk ltd t/a byebuycar.com) unsuccessful.
Upon checking companies house and the insolvency register found that there was no pending paperwork for insolvency, and no record of individual directors being insolvent.
Are these people just trying to pull a fast one, and what avenues can I follow to address this?
Have spoken to consumer direct who think that company in breach of contract, but when speaking to solicitor advised that court action would be fruitless and to await actions of appointed insolvency practitioner, but I would probably get nothing back!
Who's right, I'm completely sickened by the whole thing and am desperate to get my money that I am owed. Surely it must be theft if the company has taken possession of my car after closing up business(obviously unknown to myself at the time as they are based in the other side of the country), and surely I can report them to the police and at least have sum grounds for claiming the money that was contractually agreed?
It seems that company took car knowing that there was no chance of paying me for it, sold it on,pocketed the cash, probably laughed a lot, and then left me in the *?_*.
I cant believe the directors of the company are trying to hide behind the law by allegedly claiming insolvency without any recourse back to their actions!?
I would welcome any advice on actions that I can now take and hope someone out there can help?
