My son's case was at panel again on Thursday (not heard the outcome yet). If they decide to assess him what does that entail. Who will be assessing him?
I seem to be focused on the 'next step' so much that when I get there I don't know what it means!!
Thanks in advance for any help.

My daughter has just passed the approval for an assessment. The assessment involves a lot of reports from anyone who has ever dealt with your child all collated into a giant file. The school has a book to fill in otherwise known as SENSAR and you also have to write a supporting report/letter. Everyone is given 6 weeks to submit their information and all the information is put in front of a panel again, who then assess whether or not a statement should be issued. You may have to take your child to an outpatient appointment at the local hospital for a hearing and sight test but that is the only person he/she will see unless the people he/she is involved with want a more up to date assesment on your child. Don't worry it is very much behind the scenes.
I strongly recommend you contact your local Parent Partnership as they deal with statements day in day out and they will provide you with all the help and support you will need including report writing and advise on the statementing process. If you call the special needs education team at the LEA they will let you know whether your application for assessment was successful or not.
