Sat Nav insurance cover: must read

If you've received an in-car sat navigation for Xmas read on.
These are being stolen all the time, do not leave them in your car, or the suction holder on the window.. you will regret it. Mine lasted a month, in secure parking. I also suggest if it has a pin code, use it, makes it a bit more difficult for the thief to sell I am guessing.
You should also know that insurance companies are saying they come under AUDIOVISUAL which tends to mean up to £1000 cover (call More Than / Direct line and ask what it comes under). However, detachable sat navs (basically any that can be removed from the car: the ones most people have) actually come under PERSONAL EFFECTS and tend to only be covered up to £100 - not much use to most people who have paid at least £150.
I've just kicked up such a fuss at More Than that they've told me they will be asking staff to confirm the type of sat nav... but they are selling something to you, so they might not be singing the lower cover from the rooftops!

Sat Navs are not the only items that suffer from this issue - DVD players/ MP3 player/ Games consols, anything that isnt built into the car does not count as part of it and therefore is only covered under the normal personal possessions cover.
I did hear on the grape vine that 2 insurance groups were intending to release an add on to comprehensive insurance to cover these kinds of extra items (similar to legal expenses or courtesy cars) but nothing seems to have happened yetAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Even if you take the suction cup off clean the windscreen as it leaves a tell tale mark on the window0
