I live in Macclesfield and nothing much to do in Macc really but Buxton is not far away and is nice.
if its nightlife you like then Macc does not have any!!!! but Train to Stockport or Manchester will be ok.

Just popped back to say a big THANK YOU to everyone for all the helpful suggestions which made our trip away all the more enjoyable. Sadly the weather was a bit grim tho with heavy rain and high winds all 3 days.
We spent one full day following purple45's day trip plan which was great. Went to Goyt Valley & Tegs Nose but too wet for much walking, but great views. Visited the silk museums, (guided tour of the Paradise silk mill was interesting).
El Rio Mexican Restaurant seemed to be closed down so we ate at Abruzzo, (v nice), in the main street one night and Pizza Express another. For the third night we toddled off up the road to Prestbury and ate at The Village Restaurant, (great food), where we shamelessly earwigged the wags and rich widows...good fun! Also had morning coffee there at the Bridge Hotel one day...very civilised and great value. Also lunched at the quaint 17th century Packhorse pub in Monsal Head.
So, despite the weather, we had a great time. Many thanks to everyone for their great ideas ....much appreciated! :T0 -
Macclesfield forest is on your doorstep and also the nearby canal with nice pubs and food..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
