But it's not the same as believing in fairies and pixies, and rabbits that bring chocolate eggs and flying reindeers which is the sort of fantasy FC is. When they build with meccanno and lego they are building a mini version of something, not something for 'little people' to live in. We are also talking about a child less than a year from Secondary school, not a 4 year old playing 'cops and robbers'.Sambucus_Nigra wrote: »Dungeons and dragons, Sci-Fi, making and playing with meccano and lego; and that's just the start.0 -
my girls are only 6 and nearly 8, they believe in the tooth fairy - so santa is still safe.
in our house the family buy presents, santa is in charge of the stockings... left out at night and appear miraculously on their beds in the morning (to give us a spare 15mins lie-in)
when their older cousins no longer believed - we put them solemnly in charge of the girls stockings - they were thrilled and would not have told them for the world.... once we had planned and bought and wrapped, they came up to me sheepishly and asked if they would still be getting a stocking....
oh yes - of course x x x and even now at 13 years old - they LOVE getting a surprise stocking on Christmas morning
so worry not - the dream lives on x"A wise mum remembers her friends at all times, a foolish mum, only when she has need of them..."0 -
sorry to everyone who replied, I spent yesterday making christmas tree chocs :rotfl: DD was eyeing them and asked 'shall we put the tree up mummy?' bless her, the magic is still there

I do remember my mum telling me when I was younger about the day she found out about FC, she got into a fight at school with a girl who told her he wasnt real, came home with a split lip. My nan asked her what happened, mum said 'some girl at school said FC wasnt real' and my nan told her the truth. She said she was devastated and swore never to tell my sisters and I, and would always leave us to find out. She always said the worst thing was once one of them fond out (she was one of 7 kids . . well actually 10 we now know ) they were put in charge of wrapping the younger kids presents and only got a couple of presents as they were no longer part of the magic
I always thought that was really sad which is another reason for not including DS in DD's christmas presents. The magic is there for him if he wants it as are the surprises . . . though the cheeky so and so grabbed his gran a few months ago led her to my wardrobe and pointed to the xbox I had hidden there saying 'i think thats for my birthday' . . . he was disappointed and the present was moved
