What Computer do you have?
I have a very low spec laptop(on last legs though) and it does me fine. It runs Windows XP, Linux as and when I want to use it.
It runs all I want open office, MS Office fine, 3 different web browsers, Graphics software, photo software, web design software.
I did have a Win 98 PC but in the end I got rid of it as it took up too much room.
