Apologies if I am posting this in wrong section. I am buying a new build in Basildon area, and we have been told by the developer that our front door color will be RED !!!! When we inisisted on changing it to something else, we have been told that - "The color is a part of planning permission and council chose that" ? To me, it does not sound right. But I will welcome opinions.
Thanks,
R

Wow! You got me with that one... I haven't a clue.
As planning restrictions for other things have to be adhered to, and if this is genuine, you're stuck.
I wonder what happens if you want a uPVC door? Red plastic? Loverly!
Only your solicitor can answer this one. If you'd posted on HBR&S, one of the forum solicitors, perhaps Richard Webster, would have been a possible source of information.

I don't know about here, but when we got our holiday home abroad (new build) - we could not choose the colour of the house because it was part of the estate planning.0

It will be a covenant on the mortgage deeds.

A bit like this place then:

There can be covenants which prevent certain things being changed within a defined period with new builds.
We bought ours when it was a new build and no-one was allowed vans, caravans or boats on the driveways and you could not put on an extension or conservatory without permission of the developer for 10 years.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The developer is lying. The door has to be navy.0 -
I don't know who all to thank for making me laugh with some cracking responses. Thank you all. I've just spoken to developer who have asked me to query this with Solicitor. I hope they just don't laugh me off !! I have put it in writing that I am ready but not happy to exchange the contract until this is been changed to Dark Green (only other door colour throughout the development) NOOOOOOOOOOO !!! Got tot love this experience, and honestly didn't expect 6 responses so I have just checked now lol. Thank you all for responses. Keep them coming, remember, we live to learn lol x0

WooHOO!!! I thought solicitor wouldn't want to know about this! But they responded in a matter of minutes. They have put forward the request to Developer and are awaiting their response.

As Dunston says this is a typical covenant on new builds, when we bought ours, the doors had to be white, one of the first things I did was to paint it red!!
As far as I am aware the only people who can enforce this are the developers, and once they move off site, with all properties sold they won't give a monkies!I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Right. No mess about. Told solicitor that we will not exchange unless and until its been changed. Just had a call from developer (who i had already spoke with and requested to change it before going to solicitor) that they will change it to the colour we want!! Simple threat and desired result. Goes to show how desperate they could be !!!0
