Police notice Speed camera

Ho, I just got a letter from police that my speed was 39 in 30m/h limit zone. They asked me to send back the form with the driver info.
I wonder what do I do?

p.s. I do not want to avoid it just asking for advice. Do I appologise, and say I was not aware the limit of 30, do I ask about photo evidence?

Please help, thanks

  • You send the form back identifying the driver and then wait and see what they offer

If they offer you a speed awareness course, bite their hand off and take it, otherwise you'll just have to suck it up and accept that you broke the law and were caught and take the 3 points and £60 fine (assuming of course that you don't dispute the fact that you were speeding)

What is the date of the offence and when did you receive the NIP?

Saying you were not aware of the speed limit wont help. They have 14 days to serve a NIP as long as there is not a legitimate reason one could not be.

You may be just over the limit for a speed awareness course rather then a £60 fine and 3 points! Presuming you haven't had one in the last 3 years!

Have you received a notice of intended prosecution ?
Or just a speculative letter ?
Please can you explain the position.

If you apologise your just admitting guilt and do not think an appology will appeal to their better nature; they don't have a better nature, they think they've got you for harmlessly going a few mph over the limit and now they want your money.

2 months ago I have changed adress and change on my licence (but did not change on my vehical reg - I thought that changing in DVLA on lmy licence is enough - Im not British so do not know the rules)

They send me a letter on old adress 25/08 (i was driving 21/08), then they sent another letter 30/09 than I did not provide a driver name. And I found out about it yesterday when picked up letters from my old adress.

I have a driving licence for less than 2 years. Please advice what shoul I do?

    1. Ask about photo evidence? (and if I get it what then? certificate of camera?)
    2. Appologise and say I was not aware that there was a limit?

Is there any chance they give me a warning? Or I shuld take the course if they offer? Thanks

it is Notice of Intended prosecution

When it comes to speed camera's, there's no such thing as a warning.

If they offer you a speed awareness course I would take it. It will cost you about the same price as a Fixed Penalty notice. I did a speed awareness course a few months ago, and wrote about the experience on my blog.

The next option is a fixed penalty (£60 and 3 points). If you want to argue this, then you're looking at a trip to the magistrates, where 'I'm sorry I didn't know the speed limit' is no defence, and more than likely you are likely to be stung with a worse punishment than otherwise offered
