    Hi Spike

You only need to take your payment card to your nominated shop for the first top-up after that you can use it at any other shop you wish.
Eclipser - just wondering if the firmus top up is done by Paypoint or Payzone.
In my area there are more Paypoint outlets than there are Payzone.
I am asking for my friend and dont want to land her into not being able to find an outlet close by.Thanks.

Larne Spike,I suppose if she switches then they will send her a list too.As its Payzone then she will have to make sure that the outlet is open when she requires her top up.As far as i am aware there is only one shop near her who operates payzone but it does stay open until 10pm at night so thats not too bad. Thanks a lot Spike.

  • The gas supplier Firmus have been found guilty of misleading consumers in advertisements earlier this year.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that a claim in April that thousands of customers had switched to Firmus was not substantiated.
It also rejected a radio advert in June which said 5,000 homes had switched.
Phoenix Gas objected to the adverts, pointing to a utility regulator report which said that only 1,600 customers had switched up to March.
Ruling in Phoenix's favour, the ASA said that Firmus' claims took into account customers who were signed up but were still in the "cooling off" period.
As the two main gas suppliers in Northern Ireland, Phoenix and Firmus have competed fiercely for customers in recent years.

LOL and the energy wars begin.:D
  • I'm presently with Phoenix on a pay as you go meter. I topped my meter up with a good chunk before Phoenix stuck their prices up by 39% back in May 2011.
Anyhow that top up is still ticking over on my meter but i reckon i'll probably have to start topping up again in a month or so.
What i'm wondering is does anyone know if i put a top up on there now (as i hate letting my meter get too low) can that have any effect on the credit i already i have on there?
I can't see how it can as you buy a certain number of units with your gas top up. So if i top up with £20 and that gets me X units then surely it should just add X units to the meter tally.
The only reason i ask is its a different scenario when it comes to electricity meter, when you add a top out the meter adjusts the unit price if there has been any change.
    Anyone know?

It'll just be added to your existing credit as normal. They can't modify the existing credit to the new rate as that was bought before the increase.

Might be time to consider switching over to firmus- 10% is still worth saving after all

I've noticed the diference already...I put £8 in the meter the other week & got roughly 16 units credited,I went from 16 to 32 units in the meter.
