Chances of a Bike exchange
Dobbinski
I purchased a specialized sirrus bike from the specialized store 8 weeks ago for £450. After 4 weeks I returned the bike as the right gear lever was broken, they repaired the lever and I took it away, however when I ride the bike the lever feels as if it's going to break again. I am also now aware that the bike is not right for what I need it for ie it's uncomfortable on medium length rides. The dilemma is, I've lost confidence in the gears and I would like to exchange the bike for one with drop bars for comfort and different gears, I'm willing to pay the extra but not sure what rights I have considering bike comfort is not the stores problem but the gear lever is... I'm taking the bike back shortly so if anyone can give any advice to help me that would be great.

You're not entitled to trade it in against a different bike - you are entitled to a repair / refund / replacement - given they have already repaired this really makes the chances of refund / replacement a lot smaller (but not out of the question).
Go and talk to the manager and see what he can do for you.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Thanks I'm going to take it in today and I'll let you know how I got on, fingers crossed.0

Just go in and be friendly. No need to mention your "rights" it tends to get their backs up.
Good luck and come back let us know how you get on :money:.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
You don't actually have any rights here, the lever is fixed and is no longer faulty, "feeling like it's going to break" will be be a lose of confidence in the bike and not an actual fault. After 4 weeks I returned the bike as the right gear lever was broken, they repaired the lever and I took it away, however when I ride the bike the lever feels as if it's going to break again.
Don't be surprised if they turn you away, they can't help the fact your not confortable on longer rides.
You could try and get a deal from them to change the bars to the ones you want, might be a compromise they could live with.0 -
I'm pretty sure the gear lever will break again as it's loose so I reckon they will at least change the gear lever again. Does a faulty gear lever mean a faulty bike? Could this be considered as a reason for a refund? If so then an exchange might be an option I get.0

I doubt they would swap a whole bike for a faulty gear lever, much more likely they will keep repairing (and they are within their right to do so).Thinking critically since 1996....0

Hi just thought I'd let you know the outcome. I took the bike back and explained that the gear lever was faulty and that I was not happy with the bike partly my fault for picking the wrong bike for my use and partly the gears going faulty twice. They were very helpful and offered to either upgrade the gears for better or give me 400 out of 450 towards another bike of my choice. I thought this was very good service but as I didn't have 100 quid I asked if they would swap the bike for a 500 pound bike I wanted but for just 50 extra so basically I'd lose no money from my original purchase, the manager agreed due the good condition of the bike and goodwill for the faulty gears.
Overall I got exactly what I wanted and thought it was excellent customer service, I didn't moan just explained honestly and they were very helpful.0 -
Excellent. You should name the place
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
