One thing to bear in mind... Induction hobs shouldn't be used by people with a pacemaker as it might interfere... My mum was looking into hobs last year and didn't go with induction in the end as her OH has a pacemaker and she didn't fancy being the one having to do all the cooking all the time!

we bought one from ikea''by mistake '' when we did our kitchen 5 months ago .
it was on ''damaged'' items but wasnt damaged..just been on show for 6 months they said and came with 5 years warrant and for just 135.00 quid
we bought it as looked great and wife kept putting me to clean the gass hob-which was a nightmare
it turned out is the best thing in the kitchen, and our friends who have spend 400 something on other types are too upset about their choice
1- the pan is boiling the water-- you can still grab the pan with your bare hands-- no heat
2-power...turn it on to 9 and its soo powerful
3- adjusting + and - is easy , easier than gass
4- reviews say they are chaper than gas
5- future belongs to them as they say on post above
    6- cleaning in 2 secs
i went to buy one for my mum , cheapest i found on ebay was 289, which my mum loves it to bits

the ikea ones are made by wirlpool , so not a bad made either

Another vote for induction here. I have the ikea model mentioned above.
The only thing I would change next time is to perhaps get one with controls on the side, as occasionally if my sleeve or tea towel gets too close to the sensor controls it turns it off. Its only a minor issue though, and I do like the symetry of the controls at the front.:o

If you are going for an induction, dont get one with any tiny buttons, get one thats just a a flat glass square with sensors, its SO easy to keep clean, and you can use it as a worktop when its not on. Infact if you put it in a blackish worktop, you can hardly see it at all, and gives a very clean line to your kitchen.

Ikea also do a very cheap 3 pan set, the largest pan has two handles which is great too. They were about £6 for all three,(too tired to search it, sorry!) I bought them as a stop gap, but have never changed them as they are great. Ikea also do a 3 tier steamer that I use alot, that was about £8, has a glass lid.
  • TBH I would not get too hung up on the 'booster' function. I have it on 2 of the cooking zones on my Whirlpool hob and have not had the need to use it at all in 9 months of ownership. They are more than powerful enough on their own.

I have an Ikea one - as mentioned above sleeves can touch the buttons and mistakenly turn it off - though I haven't done it for a while, so perhaps I've learned. I use the boost feature all the time for getting water and pans up to temp FAST. I use it constantly when doing stir frys where I high heat is required throughout. Wouldn't live without now - in my small kitchen the hob doubles as usable worktop space when I'm not cooking with it. Mine runs on a 36A supply, and in three years have never had a "nuisance trip" of the MCB in the consumer unit for it - that said I don't think I've ever run more than three rings at a time, and never more than a couple on a high heat at that.
  • Thanks all.

I've noticed that IKEA do a 5 year guarantee on all their appliances! We'll be visiting our local branch shortly and almost certainly buying their NUTID HIN4T
  • Just about to have http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/whirlpool-acm-702-ne-built-in-induction-hob-black-01976668-pdt.html installed in new kitchen. Seems to get good reviews and it was only £238 when I bought it 2 weeks ago with a bit of help from Mr Quidco!!

Should go nicely with http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hotpoint-dhs53x-built-in-electric-double-oven-stainless-steel-06672533-pdt.html and http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/whirlpool-akr-503-ix-chimney-hood-glass-stainless-steel-03475142-pdt.html which were bundled together for £437 after Quidco!

It's showing as £349.9, has the price gone up or did Quidco have some mental deal which got you £100+ discount?

I've got that one installed in my kitchen. Very pleased with it (I paid £250 in store with a bit of haggling).
