Unit to kWh conversion

How do I convert Southern Electricity 'units' into kWhs (kiloWatt/hours)?
I cannot find this anywhere on their web site.
I want to compare my consumption when using Southern Electricity with my current consumption, which is measured in kWhs.
Thank you.

Take the units used from the meter readings.
Multiply by the metric conversion factor (2.83)
Multiply by the conversion factor (1.02264)
Multiply by the calorific value shown on the bill or if not use 39.5
Divide by the kWh conversion factor (3.6)

This is for an imperial meter (measures in Cu. ft.)

If you have a metric meter (Cu mtrs) omit step 2.

ELEC reads are a direct KWh reading (ie 1 unit on meter is 1KWh) for GAS use the above calculation as given by DirectDebacle

Or use this site to save a whole lot of b*****ing about:

  • The answer - the units used by SE are indeed kiloWatt hours! I figured this out by going through all my meter readings, including the ones from the new company, who openly call the units kWhs.
  • Thanks for your answers, Macman and Advantix.

No gas units are called kWh, it's an entirely different measure, and the conversion is variable. Gas units are either cu m or 100's cu ft.
For gas, your bill clearly shows both-deducting the opening reading from the closing reading gives your unit consumption.
Then the actual kWh units billed will be shown as well.
