Why would you need to put him on your tenancy? especialy if there isn't really room for him, he's sleeping on your sofa. That can't be great in the longterm for your children surely...0

There's really no reason why he can'r rent privately and claim LHA to do so. Obviously he'll need to find a month's rent up front but many councils offer a deposit bond fund so he may not have to find that as well.
I really can't see any point on putting him on your tenancy as it won't improve his situation and will turn the temporary solution of living with you into a more permanent one.

Although I hope you've already notified the HA and benefits that you have another adult living with you.0
