why do people get so offended and angry when i tell them they can't have an overdraft

Why should I treat a company or its workers with respect, when they work under ridiculous ethics?
Where is it reasonable to give me a card with an £800 limit, rather than an overdraft for £100. It's crazy. By working for them, you endorse their ethics in my opinion. There's always a way to buck the system and help the customer out, but precious few staff do it.
You need to dry your eyes. There's not a magic "This customers nice, give him what they want" Button/ At no point have I said it was right or wrong what banks do, we all have to work would you rather bank workers just left and claimed benefits just because they did not agree with the ethics.
As people have said you get some ridiculous requests from ridiculous people, and they throw their toys out of the pram, some justified most not. Folk like you are they reason why im happy to be off the phones now! :T0 -
If anyone wants an overdraft they can have mine, I don't use it

I've worked for many a financial institution over the years, had to develop a thick skin, folk can't help themselves if they don't get their own way the abuse i've had over the years there's no excuse. They should try a day working for a bank and see how they like it!
In my past life I use to work for Lloyds bank and I know exactly what the great british public are like and how childish some will behave because their application for credit was declined.0 -
I got really !!!!ed off with Cahoot who wouldn't change the APR rate on my overdraft. It was way above their advertised rate they just kept telling me that the rate was calculated when I opened the account. I kept arguing but that was when I was a student 8 years ago but they wouldn't recacluate it. I hardly ever used it but got so anoyed with this and other failings I went to first direct.
P.S. I never took it out on the poor call centre staff. Been at the other side of this working for sky getting called all sorts because I wouldn't turn peoples accounts back on who were months in arrears!0 -
The benefits system does not allow people to do this. Except in a very narrow selection of cases, you'd be sanctioned for up to 6 months for resigning or refusing to work (except as part of official industrial action) purely out of some principle. The current system of allowances means it's much more likely that you'll be worse off if you get a job then lose it than if you don't manage to get a job in the first place - this has been argued often as something which needs fixing.we all have to work would you rather bank workers just left and claimed benefits just because they did not agree with the ethics.
But it is of course ideal to act ethically even if it makes you worse off.
(I'm not stating whether it's ethical to work for any particular organisation.)
You are welcome to form any opinion you like of the company. The workers themselves are not likely to have much more power than you - and the taxes you pay to support whatever banking system you appear not to like are the same taxes they pay, so the same breath which blames them blames yourself. Remember that many callcentre workers are thoroughly in an employer's market - some of them had to make the choice to either act dishonestly badly at interview or risk losing all sources of income. I do not know the advertised apr for Cahoots overdrafts but I also have any account with them and mine has stayed at 10.8% for years.0 -

bank staff/cal centre staff get respect from me, they must up with some right idiots/prats whatever you wants to call them, same with the staff who work for insurance firms and mobile phone firms.0 -
I work in a branch and though we probably get less abuse than people on the phones (people are nicer face to face generally or more scared to get abusive), we do get the odd abusive !!!!.
Most people that come in asking for overdraft increases (around 8 or 9 out of 10) already have extremely poor account management, living in their overdraft, incurring charges, and often have a varying or low income. That is why they are declined.
People who rarely use their overdraft or have high credit turnover are generally more likely to get their overdraft increased.
If people get abusive I politely ask them to leave or I will get the manager, and they can come back when they have calmed down.
Some people threaten to close their accounts just because they can't get an overdraft extension, and I politely remind them "That's fine Sir, but you will need to bring your account back to credit from -£1100 first before we can close it"0 -
Hmmm most forms of inconvenience seem to frustrate the public. This frustration goes beyond proportion in some cases, I have seen this occur a few times.
Just because someone works for a business or an organisation, this does not mean they completely agree with how their employer operates. Well put...... i have disagreed with mot ethics from the big firms i have worked for, btu its a job still....
When i worked for the halifax, someone may have called for a loan, been refused, but it was business practice to pass them to credit cards if they had one to see if we could increase their limit.
Now excuse me, but if the credit search was saying no, why the hell were we then giving the same people credit increase (btw an increase only looks at your card usage, payment history).
i brought this up many times, but ignored every time.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0
