For income based JSA they take into consideration savings, income and capital which includes a house which is owned but not lived in as the primary residence.
I think the advisor/dwp will be trying to gather information so they can make a decision to whether to count the house as capital or discount it.
- I am presuming she doesn't have enough National Insurance contributions for contribution based?0 -
dont know she has been in working for 2 years just? the house is a building site at the minute, it isnt liveable does that make a difference?0

They will probably want to know what the property is worth, what money you had to buy it with and what money you are using to renovate it with. That may determine what you are entitled to receive in benefits.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

sorry, I didn't mean you had to justify on here those things, I meant that is probably the reason they ask all the questions. Obviously you had money then that you don't have now your circumstances have changed and one wage has temporarily gone. They probably want to know if there is equity in the property so they can assess what value of assets you have. But seeing as it's pretty much a shell I shouldn't imagine that would be a problem!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Even a shell will have a monetary value - after all, the OP and his GF will have put a deposit and other monies into it.0
