Buyer asking me to cancel bid - what should I do?

I know you guys can help me here and I'd be very grateful for your advice -
A current item I'm selling (it ends Sunday) has been bid up to a silly price by a buyer with 0 feedback. Now she has emailed me to say can I cancel her bid, she's a single mother and just lost her job (yeah, right). She's in the States too.
Obviously she isn't going to pay. But I'm pretty new to ebay selling and don't know what I'm allowed by ebay to do in these circs. Can I just cancel? Do I notify the next person that they are now the highest bidder? Or do I have to wait and then do the second chance thing?
Thanks in advance for your help

if there is more than 12 hours left till the end of auction the buyer can cancel/retract the bid themelves....or you can do it.0

The buyer isn't meant to retract the bid unless she's going to rebid the correct amount.
I would cancel her bid - the last thing you want is a winning bidder who isn't going to pay, and you can't be sure she's going to retract the bid themselves. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Cancel the bid - don't waste a second longer on someone like this.0

If someone asks you to cancel their bid, it's probably best to do so - it signifies that they are probably unwilling to retract it themselves, and most likely won't pay if they win. Select and copy the item no., then go the ebay Site Map and find the "Selling Activities" section, and select "Cancel bids on your listing". Paste the item no. in, and away you go.For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0

cancel the bid, they dont want it so no point in keeping their bid. the next highest bidder will automatically be notified.
click on the link within the listing which states how many bids have been made, then from the next page follow the links to cancel the bid, you will need the item number and ID of bidder you wish to cancel0 -
yeah you gotta cancel bid there is no chance of bidder paying and even little chance of someone outbidding her id also block her from bidding on your items0

Thanks everyone, I cancelled her bids. I will block her too.
Hope someone else will bid up in her place! And actually pay!!0
