Optical audio connection problem.

My DVD, Sky box, Wii, etc. are all connected to a cheapo sub-woofer/surround setup via the red and white audio outputs. Works for me. However, I was about to buy a Blu-ray player when I noticed that it only had a digital optical audio o/p, and I don't have an equivalent input on the sound system. Does this mean that I am scuppered, or is there some sort of conversion that I could use? Thanks...

Does the TV have red and white audio outputs? If so you can go blu ray to tv to surround. Post the TV model and we can see whats in the manual.0

You don't say if the surround sound box has a coax digital input. If it does, a tenner will buy you one of these:

If not, are you certain that the blu-ray box does not have analogue outputs?0 -
No, sadly the sound box only has analogue connections, and the Sharp Blu-ray player only has the optical output, which seems a bit daft really. The tv is a 51" Samsung plasma, so I'll check the inputs on there. Just means fiddling with the wires coming down the wall, again. The Blu-ray does have hdmi to the tv, of course, so I suppose I could come back down to the audio box...Hmmm.0

You can buy Optical to phono convertor.

Basically, I was looking at this Blu-ray because it is 3D, and is available from Sainsburys, with code, for about £65, but it looks like I would be better going for a Panasonic or Samsung, for not a lot more, and much less aggro. Shame though, cracking price, although can't see any reviews for it. Thanks for the help though, everyone. The deal was posted on HDUK a couple of days ago....0
