Again I'm just not sure why this is "odd"?
I think what the OP meant is, he wishes people were more selfless?
Yes agree, if it were me I would be against it.
We can't fight nature, it is ingrained in our DNA.
No animal put's it self up to get eat first or is happy about getting eaten.
Thus we are usually happy with things that suit us and unhappy with things that don't.

someone here said something I hadn';t thought of in quite that way in the run up to the election:
if we all voted for what would be best for us then the majority would get it and that would be democracy.
Now, beyond that we can apply our own ideologies to do more, but we can't choose to do less if the decision is made for us: only to seek to avoid it.0 -

although I agree with this I would point out that people do put other people forward. e.g. I've ofered to work christmas in the past so that people with kids could have that off. People donate to charities and causes they believe in or feel connected to.0 -

Many animals do actually.
Not put themselves forward to be eaten, per se, but many animals conciously tak the decision to pay the ultimate price for the benefit of others.
And many MANY people put themselves forward, not to benefit themselves, but to benefit others. We have thousands of heroes to thank, as an example.0
