Rejected HSBC PPI claim

Hi,

I wonder if someone can give me some advice.

I complained recently about my Carholder Repayment Protector on my HSBC MasterCard which I have held since August 2001. I received a letter today rejecting my claim telling me that they had 'concluded their investigation'.

My complaint was that at the time of taking the card I was told that I had to take the Repayment Protector and pay the premiums each month. I was not given a choice in my meeting, I was just given a leaflet.

Their rejection is mainly based on the fact that they gave me a leaflet, the premiums were stated on my monthly statements and that I had a cancellation period if I changed my mind. They say that I cannot claim simply because I have not used the repayment protector.
That was not my point, however, I want to claim because in my mind I was mis-sold the product by being told I had to have/take it and was not informed properly or given a choice.

Am I wrong in thinking that they are trying to put me off taking it further I.e. To the Ombudsman, or is it not worth taking it further as they gave me that leaflet.

Has anyone had a similar response?

Any comments welcome!

Thanks

Don't be too disheartened. Many of the banks are essentially fobbing people off at the first attempt, as they feel that this is usually enough to make someone curl their tail between their legs and give up.

The next step is the Ombudsman who are finding in favour of the claimant in a high percentage of these cases (about 50 - 60% I read somewhere).

I honestly don't know how to go about that, as I am not at that stage yet; but there is a wealth of info in other threads and in the general PPI advice section, which should help you on your way.

    Good luck!
