I am currently unable to work due to having broken both of my knees. It means I am unable to live at home due to the help I need, so I am staying at a friends house bungalow where I pay them rent and I get help with day to day duties. I decided it would make sense to rent my house out as it is likely to be sometime until I can work again. I used to work in IT for 25 years but they have now made me redundant, but hopefully I can get a job later.
My question is can I get any additional support, or claim for any benefits of any kind. ....?

the rental income will count as income less some deductions like a mortgage etc
have you put in a claim for JSA?0 -
If you're unable to work due to ill health you can claim Employment Support Allowance (contribution based) - you won't be entitled to income based because you own a house.

If your mobility problems are likely to be long term (have lasted at least 3 months so far and are expected to last for a further 6months) then you can put in a claim for Disability Living Allowance.

Umm - no.
Your house, and personal possessions are usually ignored.
The only case in which it might not be ignored is if you're not living there on a permanent basis.
If you are somewhere else for a period (the notes specifically mention convalescence), but intend to return, it is ignored.

I'm sorry I meant to say that they will be unlikely to be able to claim benefits such as Housing Benefit because they own a house which they are renting out.
But he should be able to receive ESA contributions based even if he cannot claim ESA income based due to the rental income as he has worked for the last few years.
I'm not sure there's anything else he could claim though if his friend is the only other adult living in the house his friend may be able to claim second adult rebate on his council tax.0
