Economy 10 alternatives

Hi, really hoping someone can answer a few questions for me as I'm
utterly confused about my whole electricity / heating situation and
with winter drawing in I need to act swiftly!

Currently I'm on Economy 10 (no gas), and *did* have Storage Heaters
until they were removed earlier this year as I wanted something less
bulky - be it slimmer storage heaters or electrical radiators.

Generally the only thing that runs between 11pm-7am is the computer.
Most of our electricicity comes into use from 3pm-10pm (washing,
lighting, tvs, cooking, shower) - from this, I presume Economy 7 or 10
is *NOT* the ideal solution?

1. As I'm on Economy 10, could I simply have electric radiators plugged
in and turn them on overnight and middle of the afternoon to benefit
from the cheap rates?

2. I'm trying to estimate whether it would be cheaper to go with a
standard tarrif and use electrical radiators as and when I need to, or
stay with Economy 10 (or move to Economy 7) and have storage heaters
installed? Or a combination?

3. With these economy systems, does it apply to everything or only
certain devices? I've heard that only heaters and water will benefit
from the 'cheap' rates but on other websites they seem to suggest
everything you use will be cheap if run during the off-peak times (tv,
washing machine etc). How can I tell? Very confusing!

Also can the economy 10 sockets be changed into 13Amp sockets or do
they need to be removed.

You need to understand what E10 plan you have as the term covers a wide range of tariffs.
e.g. some offer you 10 hours of cheap electricity ... in which case all electricity used during that period will be cheap rate
Other plans may offer all your heating (and maybe hot water) at a low rate, and your other usage on a two rate tariff.

Call your supplier and ask them to explain what it is you actually have and how to make the most of it.
