Buying Memory - Compatibility

I am looking to upgrade the memory on an old desktop PC from 512MB to 1.5 or 2.5 GB. The system has an MSI K7N2 motherboard (with 2 empty slots - says max 3GB) and the memory that is in there is unbranded from Crucial with a label saying it is 512MB DDR 400 CL3.
I know to avoid high density RAM and to get PC3200 400, but are there any other rules I should follow to try and ensure compatibility.
Thanks for any help

www.crucial.com guarantee compatibility, and have an advisor tool to tell you what you can have.
