When i put a disc in the playstation 2 it just clicks away. Naturally the game does not load up. Tapping it makes no difference. Tried different discs.

Try to see if i can fix it. Any advice?

Any bargain playstation 2 out there or am i best waiting for playstation 3 to come out before the price drops.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

  • Sounds like the laser's gone...it does that with mine sometimes and then says it can't read the disc, even though the disc at the time was brand new and just out the box.

  • Try the instructions on this link.

Our PS2 refused to read some brand new games we brought 15 minutes following the instructions and in now reads every disc again.

If the above doesn't work there are places that will repair a PS2

    e.g.

http://www.gtelectronics.co.uk/ps2.htm costs £30-50 if it won't read discs, i presume they replace the drive.

or here, laser replacemenet is £47

    http://www.ps2laser.co.uk/id39.htm#ps2

they also sell the parts if you want ot fix it yourself.

It definatly sounds like the laser, replaceing it isnt too dificult

Mr Modchips sells replacement parts for the PS2 all the different versions of the ps2 including the slim one.

They also offer a fitting service if your not up to the job. contact them if you have any questions, the guy who runs the company is sound.

just estimating that it will cost around £50 to fix if the laser is kaput. Think it will make sense getting a new PS2. Any bargains out there? Cheapest at Argos is £95
