Deleting messages in Outlook

I have synchronised my AOL email account through Outlook (2003).
I have no problems viewing all received messages, however I am having problems emptying the trash bin.
I have tried individually deleting messages, selecting all and deleting, purging messages. Just doesnt seem to want to delete my deleted messages.
And please before you say it, I am tied in with AOL. I know they're pants but am trying to make good out of bad by not accessing web using their log on and by accessing emails with Outlook.

I used to get this occasionally when I used Outlook, and IIRC it's caused by corruption of your .pst file. You should be able to fix it with the advice given here:
