Who's said that it's not supposed to be used? So people with the diagnosis, with it actually written on a report, aren't supposed to use the term anymore?

    Health professionals.
The public of course can say what ever they like, and of course old medical reports won't be changed, but it shouldn't be appearing on new reports.

That's barking mad. Is there anything written about it anywhere online?

The NAS still use the term - thank goodness.

The same people who said you can no longer use ASD and instead it is ASC, it's a condition not a disorder. Personally some people have far too much time on their hands when they think these things up. Aspergers and Autism although on the same spectrum are two different forms of the condition, can't for the life of me think why they are telling you differently.
I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!

Another quick update - I got a call from my doctor today. Her application for me to be assessed was successful and I should be getting an appointment in the post soon :)

My final update - I saw a psychiatrist at the autism centre on 10th & 17th October (2 x 90 min sessions) and on 24th October I was given a diagnosis of Aspergers.

Thanks to everyone for the advice on this thread, especially Prinzessilein :)
