Hoover aquajet 5000

I was given a hoover aquajet vacuum many years ago which is great for normal vacuuming. I have recently discovered that it can also be used to shampoo carpets and would like to try this. I don't have an instruction manual for the machine and haven't been able to find one on the internet.
The hoover came with some tools but nothing that looks like it is for shampooing carpets and there is not removable bucket inside the machine. Without an instruction manual I am down to guessing as to what I have to do but would appreciate some advice if anyone has the same machine or something similar.
1. Will the normal tools be ok for shampooing a carpet? If not can I just buy a generic tool as long as the pipe size is correct?
2. Do I require a bucket inside the machine? The paper bag and filter do come out leaving an empty plastic space.

I've got an ancient vacuum - Goblin3000 which is a little similar, it came with a separate shampoo dispenser which just attaches in place of the brush head and I remove thecartridge filter (the water just goes into the body of the machine) I imagine you'd be able to use a generic shampooer but no idea where you'd get one from.0

I have an aquajet (not a 5000 however). It works ok as a carpet cleaner but it's hard work! From your description, I think you have some missing parts. See this link (which shows a 5000 model):

You would need to source the missing bits (the shampoo is applied and sucked back up via a special head - not the normal vacuum attachment). I suspect you will be hard pressed to find them now

Thanks for the link to the photo Chunks. I have most of the parts in the photo, when I don't have is the wide attachment to the left of the main pipe attachment. i think that is the shampooing attachment. Neither do I have the what looks like an inner sleeve to the body of the machine, top left on the blue mat. I don't know if that part is important when washing a carpet. As for the wide attachment, I have found a generic one with the the correct size connector which would probably fit the main pipe. I am guessing that most shampoo attachments work in a similar way anyway and therefore should work (hopefully).0

No worries. The top sits in that tank when you are in shampoo mode (remove bag and dust filter). From memory the shampoo mix is drawn from that removable tank and waste water is discharged into the base. Not sure if using non OEM parts will work0
