You mean offer a great rate to someone not prepared to prove income And a history if not repaying loans?

You must be one confused little bunny.

Have you tried your mortgage provider?
  • Is it impossible then?

    I would say so.

Self cert mortgages have been used as an example of very cause of the global financial meltdown.

Letting people make their own decisions for such a huge commitment was, and is, madness.

I can't see anyone touching self cert anythings with a very long pole.

The only place that will grant a loan under those circumstances is the bank of mum and dad.

I'll put my hand up and admit I don't know every financial product available in the UK.

What I do know is, if I bet a tenner that you won't get a loan on those terms I won't lose any sleep whilst we are waiting.

The problem is that mainstream lenders have been hit hard by people who self-certified mortgages and other loans and then didn't pay them back. Often this was because of lies and exaggerations of income and a totally unrealistic attitude to debt and money management. The result is that the only loans generally available commercially to people with a bad credit history are from bottom feeders who charge usurious rates. They do this partly because they're in the business to make a profit and partly because they know that their customers are likely to be unreliable and flaky.

There was a company doing such loans. Think it was called Scrooge and Marley, but I've not seen them around for some time now. They used to do loans on second hand Penny Farthings and to have gas lighting installed in your home.

You had to contact some bloke called Bob Cratchit.
