Can I use an XP Professional Licence Key for XP Home?

Cheers. I've just called them and they're sending the install CD out for free. Lovely.0

Makes you wonder why it wasn't included in the first place, though.0

I know, it's an irritation. Probably because they wanted people to use the restore partition as it's either a) easier - not having to install drivers etc and/or b) it means people have to keep the pre-installed software.0

XP home, pro, media, and upgrade versions all have different algorythms for the COA keys and they are not interchangeable.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
.
Just to clarify - my girlfriend has a PC with Windows Home and I want to wipe that clean and start afresh. It doesn't have a CD with it but I assume it's genuine as it passed the WGA test ok. I have an XP Home SP2 CD - do you know if the licence key for my girlfriend's XP Home (pre- SP2) would work with the newer CD? Cheers0 -

Yes it'll be fine. Ive used a friends SP2 disk to install XP with my key from a basic XP disc. It just saves a bit of downloading."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0
