what lead/set up do i need?

I have a Technics SC-DV170 5 Disc multiplay system and have an issue. I used to have it all wired up playing through the TV no issues then in a moment of madness I decided to move the room round and now cant work out what goes where!

Problem is I have 2 scart connections in the back already filled in, and according to the manual I need a video cord, going to an RCA adaptor, the issue is I cant work out what I need to connect and where.

Basic set up is video cord goes into disc player, then into the TV via the RCA adaptor, through the scart connection, but my stereo is 12 foot away from the TV, so wonderful people of MSE recommend me a cord and get me watching DVD again :j

Did you remove the lead which went to the TV from the disc player as well, if not, you need a longer one of those, or move the disc player

The make and model of the TV would help

So... you want to connect the two RCA sockets on your CD player to two RCA sockets on an RCA-to-SCART adapter...?

    Something like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Phono-cable-5m/dp/B00006IVFN

Although it would probably be a good idea to spend a fair bit more and get some decent quality cable if it's going to be that long! Maybe:

There seems to be a lot of choice judging by the search engine results...

Ah, sorry - I misread your original post and thought the Technics SC-DV170 was a CD player (didn't know you could get multi-disc DVD players!)...

In that case you just need a video cable to connect the DVD player and TV, right? HDMI would probably be the best option if both devices have a socket (as it's by far the best quality), otherwise you could use component video (separate RGB phono cables), SCART, or an S-Video cable or composite cable which can be connected to a SCART socket on the TV using an adapter like this:

Belkin Composite & S-Video to SCART adapter (at Amazon.co.uk)

In order of decreasing signal quality (and so preference), I would use:
    • HDMI
    • Component video
    • SCART
    • S-Video
    • Composite video

As far as I know, HDMI and SCART cables transmit audio too, but I don't think the others do...

So if you can work out what connectors the TV and DVD player have, you should be able to pick a suitable cable.

The stereo has a video out connection, which then goes into the RCA adaptor and plugs into a scart socket on the TV. I dont think it has HDMI as its about 9 years old :-)

so am I right to think this cable and the connector would sort me out??

Your stereo hi-fi can output video...?! That doesn't sound right!

Sorry - I'm just not sure what sockets you're trying to connect.

to clarify its a technics SL-DV170 5 disc multiplay DVD system I have, and to link to the TV and play DVD its telling me to connect to the video out socket via an RCAJ connector using the video only part, not the audio connectors as well, and then into the TV on the scart connection

Right... so if you make the connection as advised that should sort out the video, and since the DVD player is part of your stereo system, I presume you can get the audio via your stereo speakers.
