Birthday cards - what a rip-off

Asda have a very small limited selection of cards for 24p. They are not all flowers for girls and sports for blokes, there are a couple of nice ones.
I left it too late to make a card for my Mum (for Mothers day) and trapsed all around the local town until I found a suitable one for 64p from card warehouse! That is probably cheaper than my usual HM one. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
For cards and wrapping paper etc I use:
http://www.browse.24ace.co.uk/
They are pretty good, and you can buy packs of cards at good prices....
I do find the best way to do this with them is to check out the 1/2 price catalogue as well
For example - packs of 8 birthday cards reduced to £1.50

Trying to find the best deals to save as much as we can..........0 -
Birthday cards are a classic example of 'perceived value' and 'charging what the market will bear'.
The cost of manufacturing and printing a birthday card is probably about a penny, but because they're bought for a special occasion people are willing to fork out c£2 for them!
However nobody would spend £2 on a Christmas card, simply because you send so many of the buggers.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
I get mine from Webb Ivory, which I run to raise money for my Guide Company. They are pretty good value and really good quality cards, I buy a load at the beginning of the year, and keep them in a box.
Only trouble is, you need really nice ones for Mothers day, etc and then you have to get them from a shop....I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Got a bargain today in Instore - used to be Poundstretcher, bought hubbie a nice winter coat (parka but he took the fur off!), was £14 originally which I thought was good, when I came to pay it was half price, so £7! Bargain.
While I was there, noticed packs of 10 Easter cards for 50p, nice ones too and some of them were for charity. Maybe they sell birthday cards too.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
i always get my cards from https://www.24studio.co.uk they usually come in packs of 5, 10 or more. i have rarely spent more than £1 a box as i buy them when there is a sale on and they have a wide variety, not all cute ones0

I always make my own cards - you can buy card at the paper mill shops -clintons cards do it too i think...you basically fill a box (A3 sized I normally go for) for £3.99 - this gives you around 200 bits of card (if you pack it tight) Just fold the A3 in half and you have a decent sized card - either make your own envelopes or buy from a pound shop etc.
As for decoration on the front - I save everything - sweet wrappers - bits of string - you name it - it goes in a pot -- pop to your local wallpaper shop too and grab some freebie samples of intersting papers to add to your look.
Homemade cards designed to the individual are so much nicer than shop brought tatt!
I made all my own xmas cards too this year and got some great comments - nice to know the hard work was appreciated!
I worked out that they cost me, on average, around 47p a card to make including envelope. Bit steep for xmas on a large scale - but great if like me you only have 15 or so people to send too.
For kids friends birthdays - Give your kids the bits and bobs box and a tube of glue and let them design it themselves...might not look great to you but it's amazing what kids like!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

The worst thing about living in Surrey is everyone is meant to be posh and I moved here and said 'where are the cheap shops/pound shops etc etc' it drives me mad!
I must live the wrong end of Surrey cos in Sutton we have the 99p shop
Atm if you get into Allders they have 75% off all there cards and wrapping paper so you may be able to stock up for the year0 -
I too have discovered the Card Factory where there are very very few cards over 99p - I bought a huge beautiful mothers day one for my Mum and she thinks that I spent a fortune on it!
Unfortunately I only know of the one locally in Ashford, but could be worth doing a search, maybe using https://www.yell.co.uk and just using your county to see if anything comes up?
Hope this maybe helps.

OK have just tried the yell search and so far have come up with:
Maidenhead
Colchester
Eastbourne
Barking
Basildon
Maidstone
Luton
Stevenage
Romford
Worthing
Hemel Hempstead
Ashford
OK I know they are all down south but just try the yell thing for your county - it does work!
