selling a car, best way to do it?
Options
Hi I want to sell my car but where's the best place to advertise it? Autotrader is very expensive as is eBay, local paper is too, are there any free sites where I have a good chance of selling, I have already put an advert on gumtree but no interest so far, my car is not over priced and is a low mileage diesel estate, any advice or tips?

I've sold cars on ebay quite easily and quickly with classified ads and thought they were good value at only £14.99 (you could add plenty of pictures included in the price)
Considering how many people you can reach by advertising on Ebay I would have thought it was well worth it0 -
If you are looking at the sold prices on ebay and happy to take that for your car then stick it on with plenty of pictures and a good description for a buy it now / classified ad of a few hundred more.
If you want to get closer to the top end of the market for the car stick it in Autotrader again with plenty of good pictures. Gumtree is free and worth a try too - but I wouldn't use it as the only place to sell the car.
Also check out any owners forums and stick an ad in their for sale section.0 -
There's a useful guide here - The best way to sell a car
Basically it's a trade off between the time/effort you want to put in and the price you get.
More time/effort (e.g. listing on a classifieds site) = The most cash
Less time/effort (e.g. selling to dealer/webuyany car) = Less cash
There's some links to free sites in there too. Autotrader is very expensive but the traffic it gets means it'll be seen by a lot of people so will sell quicker probably.0 -
Just sold my car last night and would advocate Ebay approach. I did the standard auction approach with a reserve price as I didn't want my car to sell too cheaply. I hadn't researched the Classified ad route and it's definitely cheaper that way (by about £20!).
Also word of mouth is good - work mates, friends of friends, etc. Amazing how many people may be looking for a car.
If you go the online route, make sure take lots of photos - think I had about 12 on Ebay. Good luck selling it!Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840 -
I sold mine on Ebay using the classified with the best offer option. It was sold in 2 hours :j and only cost £14.99 with no final fees :money:If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation0
