Moving Provider when have Credit balance

Hi,

I am wanting to move providers for my Gas & Elec and currently have a high credit balance with SP, can someone confirm that I will get this refunded? I am sure I will but my husband thinks otherwise!

Thanks in advance

Yes, of course you will, once the switch has taken place and the closing readings agreed you will get a final bill and any credit if due.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thank you, I knew that but my husband made me doubt myself as he doesn't normally get involved in these things. Thanks for your quick reply!

Yes Maisie I have recently moved from SP to EDF and have received my final bills from SP, they were both in credit to the tune of £124 and £144.
SP issue cheques to repay the credit rather than put it into your bank account. The cheques in my case came quite quickly.

Hope that has put your mind at rest.

Yes, as others have already said it should be refunded to you. If worried however why not just ask for it back before you make the switch?
  • can I just offer a word of caution - I am still awaiting my refund from British Gas from November last year - have just put in a formal complaint with the ombudsman.

How do you get them to refund you before you switch? You have to wait for the final bill which doesn't come until the switching process is underway.

You should have taken them to court by April. They would have had their solicitors look at it and advise it was cheaper to settle than fight for the right to hold on to your money for ever.

if you call up with actual reads before a switch they will refund, but they need this actual read
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
