Indesit washing machine

Can anybody help, I feel i've been conned!
I brought an Indesit washing machine from Argos at the end of August. On sunday it flooded my kitchen, the engineer has just been and said the drum is cracked. When i asked what had caused it as the machine was only 5 weeks old he said a coin, yet no coin has been found! I didn't have an extended warranty, as i've had one before and it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. The enginner told me it was £105 call out there and then or set up an extended warranity. He said it's only parts that are free not labour and as it was accidental i would have to pay either way. There is no proof it was a coin,I can only take he's word for it. I've had to set up an extended warranity as I didn't have £105. I feel conned into taking out insurance that i didn't want to.

Was this an Argos-sent engineer, or an independent? (Since warranty was discussed, probably Argos-sent).
Have you washed anything with reasonably-heavy metal accessories since you got the machine? (e.g. trousers with integral (fixed) belt with metal buckle). If yes then this could have been the cause. If no then it is most likely an inherent fault and Argos/the engineer are pulling a fast one.
Press Argos again for evidence (not opinion) that the damage was accidental and caused by a coin.0 -
If the repair is not covered by the warranty they (by they, I mean Indesit) are within their rights to charge.
Therefore your claim would be with Argos under sales of goods act. Contact them and have them inspect it, then Argos and the manufacturer can agree on a repair. They would need to proof the fault is not inherent within the first 6 months.
Have you though now had it repaired under the new extended warranty you signed up for? If so I fear you have no comeback with Argos as you would have had to have given them the opportunity to rectify it.0 -
Bit of an update. I have spoken to a stroppy customer advisor at Indesit , who has said they will drop the call out fee to £49 and i can cancel the extended warranty. They say they will stand by the engineer as he is the expert, and as it was negligence on my part (still no evidence to this). I said that Indesit should be negligent for designing a machine that breaks so easily. This was the point the advisor got stroppy and said to think about their offer and ring back. I still feel angry about this, and not sure whether to pursue it or just accept their offer of £49.0

you're under 6 months, they have to prove what caused the damage.
You should be speaking to Argos ONLY if that is who you got it from. You should not contact Indesit.0 -
Result!!! Thank you all for your advice. I rang Argos and they said just bring your machine in and we'll swap it for another! No questions, no hassle. Going to ring Indesit now to cancel the extended warranity. Just out of interest, do you think I will still be billed for the call out? :j0

The callout charge was covered by the warranty. Since you have used the warranty within the first 7 days you therefore forfeit you rights to cancel. So if the £49 callout charge is less than the cost of the warranty you should snap their fingers off a accept it.0
